TOMMY FAZIO TREND REPORT: Farming is one of the foundations this nation was built upon. The farmer is the quintessential rugged individualist, representing a bygone era of American masculinity. Their apparel served them well - durable, rough around the edges, and expertly crafted in local factories.
Today we see a reemergence of this as a fast-tracking trend in the industry, especially amongst city dwellers. Although the modern man may not be out on the fields, he has embraced work wear and quality constructed goods like never before. Padded waxed coats, American crafted denim, thermal henleys (even long johns), and wool caps can all be seen from Milan to New York City. Taking a sharp turn away from the modern minimalist, the heritage-fashion fusion opts for functional external pockets and rugged layers. Footwear has embraced the trend with worn-in work boots, Dealer boots and Wellingtons leading the way. Design will harken back to the days of the good ‘ol boys, but updated silhouettes keep things current. Color pallets shy away from the bold and opt for muted hues of neutral tones. However, the most essential components of this trend may just be an untrimmed beard and a rustic swagger.
BRAND SPOTLIGHT: Officially re-launching with their Fall/ Winter ’13 collection at The TENTS, British heritage brand Kent & Curwen was founded in 1926 and famed for its iconic cricket sweaters. Today the line boasts a full range of luxury tailored sportswear with modern cuts, an updated feel, and a subtle nod to their sporting roots.
